What Customers Say About Master of Puppets:

Due primarily to the fact that Cliff was the only band member to take formal lessons and study music theory during a short stint in college positively affected the orchestrations on this album. Every song on this album is unique and has something to say about our culture. This knowledge heavily influenced the band and progressed over Cliff's short but important tenure in the band. Cliff Burton's influence in the band is very evident on this album. They still haven't replicated the passion, anger, and pure artistry that Cliff brought out of them on this album. I wonder if that song is a call to Dave Mustanie to clean up.

"Master of Puppets" menacing intro of percussive staccato guitar breaks set the stage for the theme of a person controlled/enslaved by substance abuse.

This is why many people consider Cliff so important to Metallica's history. Each song on the album is technically amazing.

Every time I pick this album up to play it I feel like I am holding a legend in my hands.

Lars Ulrich oftens credits that Cliff had an understanding of time signature, syncopation, and melody that the rest didn't.

"Leper Messaih", "Damge Inc.", "Battery", "Disposable Heros" each song deals with some heavy subject matter and backs it up with some crazy rhythms, melodies, chord progressions, and motifs that Metallica don't or can't continue anymore.

The melodies on the middle section of "Orion" are beautiful and create a serene mood.

The melancholy words and chord progressions of "Sanitarium" remind me of RP McMurphy in "One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest".

Metallica really peaked with this album and the only thing that ever came close, though in a completely different way, was the Black album.

While the thrash guitar and fast drumming make it very intense, the band also delivers good melody and some very fine instrumental interludes; I especially like the use of acoustic guitars in some of these. While I grew up in the 70s on bands like Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Rush, and Rainbow, I moved away from hard rock and metal to classical music late in high school. I also give the album high marks for providing a fresh sound different from previous metal records and for its thoughtful lyrics. My only criticism of the album is that it is a bit monotonous. I only recently discovered Metallica when XM set up a temporary station called "Mandatory Metallica" which broadcast in March and April of 2009. I listened to a lot of their stuff one weekend and liked them enough to order this album from Amazon.Overall, I think Master of Puppets is a great album. While the band did inject some gentler acoustic interludes, I think the album would have been even better if James Hetfield had actually sung some ballads in a less aggressive vein. That would have broken up the thrash more and avoided listeners' desensitization to it.

TOTALLY AVOID THIS FRAUD AT ALL COSTS. I was hopeful that this was the real deal after reading about it being a "Rare Japanese Pressing" of one of my top FIVE favorite albums of all time AND BOY, WAS I MISLED. How long is it going to take for Lars and Co. I compared the audio quality to my domestic copy purchased close to 20 years ago by now and there was ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE. It also says it was pressed in ARGENTINA, NOT JAPAN right on the cd and the booklet that comes with it looks like a cheap bootleg pressing. to update this classic album with a 20+ bit remaster so scamsters quit taking advantage of true fans like myself. Amazon needs to stop this scam right now.

Anger. So I say to avoid this album at all costs and get St. I don't know why people think this is Metallica's greatest album. Anger. It's the same riff over and over and over and over, and I have not even seen a MOP music video on MTV. Like seriously, where's the variety, like in St. Load and Reload are awesome as well, and if St. Anger is too badazz for you, get those two first to prepare for the ANGER.

This song's lyrics are some of the best too, considering it is about HP Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. Every single song on this album will blow your mind. From the other 1200+ reviews, its obvious that this album is a gem. Read that story and you will love this song even more.Welcome Home (Sanitarium)- This song has it all. The music is technical, aggressive, and above all enjoyable to listen to. The highlights of the album in my opinion are:Master of Puppets- The speedy riffs and beautiful interlude make this song one of the best. The Thing That Should Not Be- one of the more less appreciated songs on this album, but it is the heaviest song by far in Metallica's first three albums. good lyrics, riffs, solos, and that catchyness that even not metal fans can enjoy.Orion- Cliff's musical knowledge and ability comes out in this song. The interlude and bass solo are sweet music to my ears. All in all, this album probably did more for Metal than any other and single-handedly influenced generations of rockers.
